Many of you know that I have a love/hate relationship with house auctions. It's one of my favorite things to attend, but it's also sad to remember the reason for the auction. I think this capture illustrates that - someone's lamp, her quilts and even her shoes, all out on the lawn. But there is joy in the fact that people buy and give new life to the items. I'm tagging this one for the b&w challenge - humanity. It seems fitting...
As a child I went to a lot of auctions with my grandparents, and then when the auction happened, ran around playing tag with other kids or sat in the lunch area eating chocolate cream pie. Happy memories combined with the memories of how fleeting life can be, even at its longest.
I have a very hard time at things like this- I am very sentimental about people and anything ending (even stores closing) but also have this idea that objects have a life of their own (which gives me a hard time throwing anything out) It's a nice shot, though, especially in b&w.
@blackmutts I know what you mean, Brooke. I'm especially sensitive to photos (I have to really be careful at flea markets - I want to rescue them all and bring them to my house, where I have plenty of personal clutter already!)
@linnypinny I am so bad, I even saw that a Sports Authority near me is going out of business and thought "Better stay away from that sale or I'll get overly sentimental and buy more than I would ever use!"
