Sometimes it's all about the photo or the title. Today my 365 offering is about the news. This was Saturday's headline after hundreds of children and teens had to face the slick roads to get home from school. I've heard of no serious injuries, but it was scary stuff. The only other time I remember it being worse was in the late 1970s. They let schools out too late and it was a huge traffic nightmare. Buses didn't get to their appointed stops until 9:00 or 10:00 pm. And no cell phones, no social media existed. For decades, Metro shut down schools over just the forecast of bad weather. Bet they do that again for a good while!
Interesting offering! I saw a video on FB of a woman trying to get into her car, slipping on ice. Not sure if it was in your neck of the woods or not, but it was funny. I can imagine the seriousness of the situation too. Not usually something to laugh about.
It'd be a tough call to make, wether to cancel school or not, especially if the initial forecast didn't sound as threatening. But with kids it's always better to be safe than have to apologize later. I feel for the bus driver!
It's a tough call to make, but when in doubt, always safety with kids first. I'm sure social media was a hot mess. I'm not a fan of social media...judge, jury, and hangman
Nicely composed photo. It's nice they apologized so everyone knows they will be more aware of the situation in the future. Weather is tricky. You never know. Hard to call.
Very interesting situation as I sit here having just experienced a 40C (100F) day!! I do love the capture of the bus and all that snow! Guess they'll change there attitude for awhile now :)
In my area we had the reverse. People complaining becauser they cancelled school and there was NO snow. They would have been the same ones to complain though if there had been school and no cancellation. It juist goes to show you can never make everyone happy
This is very interesting, Lin. I'll bet a lot of folks are reflecting on the decisions made that day. There's no doubt lots to learn from the experience.
It is a tough call. The school district here is under fire for having school on a really cold day. They had a two hour delayed start, but the conditions were still bitterly cold with icy sidewalks.
