Just a snapshot, a panorama from my iPhone. A group of people from my office went to tonight's baseball game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals. That's the St. Louis arch over the center field wall.
The title is (of course) the some "Take Me Out To The Ballgame", a 1908 Tin Pan Alley song by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer which has become the unofficial anthem of North American baseball. (per wikipedia) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZYQ4VmGmPM
"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd;
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,
I don't care if I never get back.
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win, it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game."
@lsquared - It nice that they redesigned stadiums. I live near Pittsburgh and their home field was at one time Forbes Field that was fan friendly except it was in the middle of town with little parking. They tore it down and built 3 Rivers Stadium and at the same time, Cincinnati built Riverfront which were home to both the NFL and MLB teams. Then either the Chicago White Sox or the Baltimore Orioles built newer baseball-only stadiums that were reminiscent of the old-time ballparks like this one. Now I think most if not all pro teams have their own stadiums and the ballparks are more fan friendly.
@skipt07 I've only been to PNC Park once, it is a beautiful park. I grew up in Pittsburgh and have great memories of 3-Rivers. The previous stadium here in STL was the same basic design (cookie cutter), not mourned. Never had a chance to go to Forbes Field though, We moved to the 'Burgh the year 3 Rivers opened.
Thanks all!
They did a good job laying out this stadium (opened in 2006) to provide a view of downtown and the arch.
Paul: technically it is Busch Stadium, but I think any baseball venue gets called ballpark more often than not.
Lou Ann: This is pretty far up, but there's more above!
