Old Chain Of Rocks Bridge

I posted several photos of and from this bridge last weekend. I went back today for more! This shows the 22 degree bend in the bridge that I noted here:

I'll bet that corner was nerve wracking in bad weather....

It is quite a bridge isn't it. With that bend you can get more in your photograph!

It's a splendid structure... unless I missed it, I don't think you have told us why it was constructed in this peculiar way.

@vignouse Thanks Richard! I posted the reason on one of the photos, but not sure which one or which of my albums. Apparently the bridge was constructed this way to allow barges to pass under with the current, and to be lined up with the 2 water intake buildings. This section of the Mississippi River has been bypassed by a canal since the 1950's...
