Yolanda and Mr Man, our Nuts'n'Bolts man have decided to resume their journey which was interrupted by Fiji's cyclone. Their mode of transport is a DC3....
Built in 1936, the amenities of the DC-3 and DST popularized air travel in the United States. With only three refueling stops, eastbound transcontinental flights crossing the U.S. in approximately 15 hours became possible. Westbound trips took 171⁄2 hours due to prevailing headwinds—still a significant improvement over the competing Boeing 247. During an earlier era, such a trip would entail short hops in slower and shorter-range aircraft during the day, coupled with train travel overnight.
Yolanda is waving to all her friends who have given her a rose to take away and Mr Man is going round the plane to get in at the luggage hold.
The pilot is a friend of Mr Man and would not divulge their destination but as I think the range of this aircraft was only 500 miles, it won't be Paris!
Yolanda has done something to her hair--she looks so very stylish. Cool sunglasses. Wherever they are off to, I hope they have a fabulous time!!! (By the way, do you remember the day when you flew you dressed up ; ) Times change, eh ; )
@yonnie I still do, Yvonne, though definitely not high heels - I think I will bury the remaining pair in my wardrobe! We dressed up for the movies too as well as church! Yolanda did think of ripping her skirt off to wave goodbye but Mr Man, once more, dissuaded her!
@maggiemae I love high heels, but I rarely wear them anymore. Although we still wear dresses to Church, I think I am one of the few who still wears nylons ; ) BTW, you are too funny. Glad Yolanda managed to keep her skirt on!!!
I just saw your new profile pic--LOVE IT. So fun to read your update. I didn't know what to do about people who seemed to drop out. It is so sad when suddenly they are gone. I do understand the time constraints.
DC3's.... now they were great looking planes ...... also the engines sounded awesome think they were Pratt and Whitney ...
Enjoying the story .... keep it up !
Yolanda grows more stylish every day -- love her hat and sunglasses and her pose for her fans. You are way ahead of me in photoshop. I lie your new picture too.
Yolanda looks so excited about their new venture. Believe it or not, when I first started traveling (before commercial jets) I have flown in a DC3. Actually it was quite fun, but you're right they can't go very far. Very cleverly done and will look fwd to seeing where they end up ;-)
Enjoying the story .... keep it up !
Like your new profile pic!
I'll bet they're off to Vanuatu--it's 700 kms. so maybe they'll have to do a water landing and hop on a boat.
How interesting.
Enjoyed this a lot.
