Auckland from a distance

Arriving back in the big city we spent some time with a 90 year old SIL who is active and 'with it” even to the hilarious chuckles she makes when telling a story!
Our accommodation must have been one of the best in Auckland but we got it with a low price because we had to go up some steep stairs. The view from the windows might be one of the best we have seen in Auckland!

Three good things;
1. There were only 12 steps in these “steep” stairs!
2. We met with some interesting tourists from Switzerland in the wonderful luxurious lounge where the waiter set the fire and helped it blaze in front of us, served us with ‘glayva’ (a whisky liqueur I haven’t tasted for years) and the ambience was set!
3. A trek in their wonderful cliffside property was wild and challenging but made rather humorous by a couple in front of me, one of whom had the hiccups!
This is an amazing view, taken at a perfect time of day! Sounds like a good welcome back visit too.

What an amazing shot, Maggie! It looks like the city is in the spotlight with layers in front and behind. I love the home that shows up at the bottom.

@ckwiseman I waited for a sun spot to move over a cloudy city and just illuminate the city towers - didn't know if it would but it did!

It all sounds wonderful......they must have known you were a photographer putting you up in the Gods! Stunning view & your fireside evening very comfortable! Amazing how the centre of Auckland rises out if the ground like an island...a Fave for the unusual setting.

@happypat It was good exercise going up and down those stairs. The view was the best but the hotel is an old one but beautifully maintained.

Great blue background for the bright city of Auckland. I also noticed the "small" home in the lower right hand corner of the image. I like the juxtaposition.
