Mt. Saint Helens is the volcano that blew on May 18, 1980. I lived four miles south of the Canadian border at the time and heard it blow. It is located outside of Kelso/Longview, Washington.
I remember the ashes from that eruption. We lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the time- half way across N America and our skies were darkened for a day. The winds were just coming our way back then. Can you see Mt Baker from where you are? Or too far north.

It is an interesting place to visit. They have a great visitor's center there too. @webfoot@byrdlip@seattle@cortens
It's like the day Kennedy was shot; we all remember where we were and what we were doing.

I was living in Northern California and we got dusted by it on its second eruption later in May. The wind was blowing a different direction that day.
you can see it on a clear day just before you get to the Narrows bridge, east bound.
