Sharon Schamber workshop

Oh my goodness, she challenged us to dunk our spools of thread in mineral oil. Do you see the looks on their faces? Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, but it didn't leave any residue on the fabric.
I'm curious about why you do that?

@ceci , her background includes 20 yrs of couture bridal manufacturing where they oil all their threads. Oiling strengthens the thread, stops it from aging, and protects the machine from lint. It also oils the machine as it goes through. MIneral oil is much more highly refined than machine oil because it is intended for human consumption. Also, machine oil has paraffin in it, which gums up the machine over time. That's why it turns yellow.

Interesting. Who knew I would get so many quilting tips from a photography website?

Ha, Ha, Cecil, I agree! So, have any of you actually tried this yet?

@ceci @pdelgin Yes, I dunked a spool of Aurifil and have been using it ever since. Using my old machine (a Bernina 930) because the new one is being serviced. And I must say, the machine sounds better.
