Rugby

My daughter is somewhere in that "scrum". My first time seeing this game. Husband kept reassuring me that "statistically it's safer than soccer". Everything went pretty well until they had to call an ambulance. One of the girls broke a leg. Ugly compound fracture. Really awful. Statistics be damned.
Yeah that doesn't look good. I've never seen a rugby game but that pileup looks way more dangerous than any soccer game I've ever seen. Sorry, that wasn't very reassuring, was it? My son played soccer from the time he was 7 until he was 15 and he never had an injury. Now he's running track and cross country in college and has sprained his ankle three times since March -- one time during a race. My other son broke his arm twice -- but not doing any sport. Once he tripped walking up a ramp and the other time he was throwing a ball in PE. Too bad we can't just wrap them up in batting!

@wiesnerbeth this is actually a controlled "pile". It's how they start a play and it's called a "scrum". There's a whole new language to learn with rugby. Both of my kids played soccer since they were 4 years old, and we could only recall once or twice that an ambulance was called to a field. Wouldn't you know this would happen at the first rugby game I go to? But I have to say, the game itself was pretty exciting. I did turn into a screaming spectator quicker than I expected! The whole thing was a roller-coaster ride.
