Dog-fennel or Eupatorium capillifolium... by marlboromaam

Dog-fennel or Eupatorium capillifolium...

I think this is a marked improvement over the last shot I posted here - https://365project.org/marlboromaam/365/2020-10-21. A little breezy today - I noticed a delicate powdery scent wafting from somewhere... I looked all around for something blooming... Then I sniffed the dog-fennel... I took it for granted that it only had a medicinal aroma when its NOT blooming! The scent that was coming from all those little blossoms reminded me of baby powder! With that info up my nose, I did some more digging on this weed.

Dog-fennel is in aster family. The herb we grow in our gardens is in the carrot family. So they are very, very different. Dog-fennel is a goldmine for wildlife. It also has medicinal uses and is supposed to keep mosquitos away. Lots of good info here - https://floridawildlifegardentails.wordpress.com/2016/07/02/hey-my-dogfennel-is-buzzing/

I'll have to let my son know about the mosquito connection. He is bothered a great deal by those little buggers. This capture does show the gentle cascade of the flowers very well.
