Hotchkiss Gazogène Camionette, 1935. During the WWII, petrol is almost no longer available. Many cars (in France) are converted to (wood) gas propulsion. If that subsequently leads to enormous deforestation, the gas-powered cars are banned by the German occupier and confiscated.
With the current oil and gas prices we are back to square one. And the increasing need for electricity doesn't make it any better. Our coal-fired power stations are running at full speed again.
