Snapping turtle

Out walking/geocaching today and came across this little creature. She (or he) is about 8 inches from nose to tail and has lots of growing to do but I’m sure she could give quite a bite if provoked.

How unusual, never seen or heard of this critter before. In fact I thought it was burnt and charcoaled!
