Das Apfelmännchen, is German childrens book: the little apple man
I thaught of the book only after I took the picture.
The story: A man has an apple tree that never blooms, while other apple trees are in full bloom year after year. The man is very sad about that and thinks: If only my tree would carry ONE apple! Spring is coming again, and the tree is actually getting one single flower. The result is one apple that grows and grows until it is so big that the man has to carry it on his back to the market. But nobody wants to buy such a huge apple. They even laugh at him.
But then a terrible dragon threatens the whole country. The giant apple is now presented to the dragon and he lunges at the apple and as it is so huge he chokes on it.
So everything turns out for the better: The land is saved, the man is rid of his apple and in the future he dreams only of small apples.
