The rock under which I live, was once a medieval city. We have walls and towers and stuff. And later on, it was part of the Austrian-Hungarian empire, and the cultural influences are obvious on every corner, especially on this particular boulevard. (I still strongly believe we belong to that empire and my plan for when I shall rule the country is to declare war to either of them and the next day surrender).
So, this disease of a building is built in the typical architecture. It used to be the Palace of Justice. They don't tear it down (I think it is listed as a historic monument). They planned to repair it. And they started... who can remember...??? About 4 years now. Maybe even longer ago. And work has come to a halt in this terrible state. And it looks like an abscess in the very center of the town, on one of the main boulevards. The disease that is slowly spreading in this town and in the country is the neglect of such buildings.
It's sad to see such abandoned renovations for years. We have a different kind of madness. Many modern buildings in good condition are being demolished just because they were built during the time we call socialism. And in their place, they build buildings that were bombed to the ground during WWII. The work is given to pro-government contractors who do it at multiple prices. Which do you think is more insane?
It looks like it could be a fine old building if it had some care taken to it.
I find there is a beauty in most architectural styles - some elegant and some austere. But then - beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess!
@borof Do they have the plans of the buildings that were bombed? Or do they mean just to rebuild them to match that view. I don't think it would be too bad to have nice classical building. Instead of the painful blocks of glass...
What bothers me about this particular building is that it, as far as I know, is owned by the authorities. And they do not care about it. If I left my house in this state, I would probably be fined over and over again until I fixed it or tore it down. Filthy scums...
