Last night, while putting out the newspapers into the recycling bin, I turned to find a dark substance on the concrete. On closer inspection, I found I had my first visit from a Cane Toad.
These critters were an introduced species of toad to Australia which turned out to be a bad mistake. They were supposed to eradicate an insect; however after they did, they multiplied and became a nuisance themselves. They are ugly (as you can see) and poisonous to humans, dogs, cats and other animals.
I grabbed my broom and pushed him out of my carport. He didn't seem to mind being pushed out of the way (as most of them don't), but once inside, I Glen-20'd my broom head all over! I didn't want to have that toad's stench - or anything else of it - in my house.
Writer, poet, artist and prolific reader.... that's me.
I'm a collector of books, vinyls, coin purses and strange handbags... that's me too.
Otherwise, I love...
Yes, he sure is ugly - which is hard for me to say about a toad - but he sounds ugly on the inside and out. It's amazing how animals AND plants taken out of their natural environment for man-made reasons usually DO end up wreaking havoc.
