So when we saw this pitcher plant which was rather massive at 7-8in (17-20cm), we looked at each other and had this brief exchange.
Me: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
The Husband: It looks like a penis!
Me: And that's why I need to take a shot of this!
It's probably a Nepenthes species, related to the Nepenthes Rajah, the largest pitcher plant in the world. The biggest of these plants can hold over 2 liters of digestive fluid. Small birds, lizards and frogs can fall into them and die inside. Pretty scary-amazing-cool, isn't it?
I love pitcher plants! We have them ourselves! Small tidbit for you, the pitcher plants that grow out of the ground "Sarracenia" (not the hanging kind that we have as a house or garden plant) is an endangered plant species and are protected in the State of Florida! They are very cool plants!! :) Nice capture btw!
@jenirainbow And the whole time when I was taking photos of it, with The Husband saying, "Make sure you get all of it!" I was looking around furtively hoping no one would notice. But it's just a plant! 8D
From the hysterical caption to the actual image, this is great. On a humorous as well as nicely composed perspective. Thank you for my morning giggle Livia!
Well . . I wouldn't want it in my back yard. lol It's an erotic beauty, alright. But eats frogs, lizards, and birds?!! Uh uh. Nope don't want that around me. Beautiful photo of it tho. :)
maybe a condom for marilyn manson, but it so does not look like a penis.... any man that has something that looks like that would need to see a doctor, and it would probably require amputation LOL
Love your commentary and title! That's exactly what I thought in the thumbnail but told myself to get my head out of the gutter...clearly, it was in the right place though! Great shot of a very unusual and phallic plant!
I'm laughing now because I thought the same thing when I saw this photo. I chastized myself, feeling a little guilty for these thoughts. Then I read your commentary :D
A big, bold and very hard "THANK YOU!" to everyone!
So glad you've gotten a laugh out of this. I had great fun taking this shot. Heh. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and write a comment. I appreciate it and I am grateful! 8D
Reminds me of a birthday card I saw recently which had the lower torso in side ( very similar to this pic of yours) and the cover read "Thought I'd give you a topless dancer for your birthday."
great story
and it does look like a penis.
kind of disturbing
Great shot - what an amazing plant!
Very beautiful pic of it

On this picture we can understand why orchids are named like this :)
