Last photograph in the Chinatown series. (At last! 8D)
I wanted to show new and old in a single shot. On the left, you can see the new high-rise public flats. On the right, are the low-rise restored shophouses. These windows are a little different from the ones I posted early on: http://365project.org/myautofocuslife/365/2012-02-23
The architecture of these shophouses is actually a blend of colonial and ethnic styles. Shophouses throughout Singapore may look alike but they display a range of subtle differences depending on the architectural influences during the period of construction. I hope to be able to get around to photographing shophouses in other parts of Singapore in the weeks to come. All my Chinatown photos were taken with my 5-year-old Lumix DMC FZ-18 superzoom compact.
This has been so interesting and lovely to see the attractive buildings and sights you have shown us. Love the perspective, capturing the old and the new.
Great series of shots Livia, I've enjoyed them so much. This has got superb lead in lines, and is a great contrast between old and new. I'm looking forward to what you do next.
I hav really enjoyed your captures of the architecture in these old buildings in Chinatown. You have brought back memories for me. I especially love the windows in this one.
What a gorgeous contrast photo, Livia. Just love the angle and the pov of this. I am a huge fan of the older architecture. Just can't be beat for its attractiveness and well built construction. Great angles and curves. Beautiful lighting and colors. Thank you for the history and the guide through Chinatown. Looking forward to seeing more of Singapore.
Very cool capture of old and new. I never thought of it that way and have plenty of photos like this. Will have to post rather than toss them aside. Nicely done, Livia.
What a contrast, Livia. I love the old buildings - they have so much more character than the new square buildings they are building today. Have enjoyed immensely your series on Chinatown.
The colours, detail and contrast in this picture are all amazing. Its so disappointing that cost out ways detail with majority of modern buildings. All these skills will be lost forever soon.
Beautiful shot - love the colors and the interesting details. I like the comparison between the new and the old so much because it shows the difference in lifestyle then and now so well.
A great, big, new and shiny "THANK YOU!" to everyone!
It never gets old to say thank you even though I use the same words over and over. I am grateful for the time you've spent here to look at my work and to leave a few words. Your comments are a great source of encouragement for me. Getting out there, taking photographs in public view, is something I don't really enjoy doing. But I realize that I need to break out of my comfort zone and do different things, in order to learn and grow. And I want to thank all of you for your support. If not for being on 365, I would never have taken these shots.
wonderful blues! A fav!
