Well, that's what it looked like to me. This weaver ant would walk, then put his face to the leaf for a while, then take a few steps, then put his face to the leaf again, as if he's looking for something!
Or maybe it was his nap time. Did you know that worker ants take up to 250 power naps a day? Each nap lasts up to a minute. A queen ant, however, sleeps 90 times a day, over 6 minutes at a time. That comes up to over nine hours of sleep each day!

Do you know how much hours a lion sleeps a day ? I`m told , up to 20 hours.
A great catch and beautiful micro. full of details . a pro pic. Thanks for the explanation to. Love the read it
Oh you do make me laugh! That's exactly what he looks like he's doing - and my heart goes out to him! I've been there. ;)
Love the green (which I'm starting to think of as Livia's Green) - it's so vibrant & punchy.
Ants are so interesting but most of the ones around here sting so I stay away. Incredible shot --perfect! .I've always thought it would be fun to have an ant farm. Interesting details you've provided....thanks!
Another great shot! I love that I can see his face so well. I once read up on the sleeping habits of ants and remember that some people claimed that they don't sleep at all! Your information sounds more realistic - thank you, great caption.
Incredible Livia, made exponentially more powerful by your commentary, which as ever, made me smile, at the end of one of the toughest days I've had for a while! :)))
Amazing detail and clarity!! WOW.... what a great find. Love the info. Those naptimes sound interesting ...but then they are so teeny, maybe a few minutes is all that their little bodies need to feel refreshed again. Great work, Livia.
@monika64 *LOL* Inside? I do not want ants in my flat! This ant was shot in a mangrove forest, where I like to take a lot of macro shots because I can find bugs and insects there. I go there once or twice a week with my camera. 8)
@summerfield Your comment went missing!? 8( Once I wrote a comment after looking at a picture. I thought I had posted it. But a little naggy feeling made me go back to the photo, a few minutes later, to check. Sure enough, my comment wasn't there. I think I closed the window after typing and reading my comment (to check for typos) but did not actually hit the Post Comment button before that. XD Could this have happened? (Though I hate to suggest you might be as forgetful as I am... 8D )
A great, big, not-yet-sleepy, bright and early "THANK YOU!" to everyone for stopping by! Thank you for taking the time to write a comment. Please know that I appreciate each one. Shooting ants is quite fun. I avoid them when I see them in groups because these ants bite. But when I see one or two individuals doing their thing, I observe for a while, then take shots. This weaver ant was photographed in a mangrove forest.
Such fantastic detail - I was sharing your shots with my son and he was blown away! Took the mouse from me and browsed about your whole album :) You did the impossible - stopped an 18 year old in his tracks for about half an hour.
@gabsview Reading your comment made my day! My entire weekend, actually! Thank you for letting me know. I hope your son had great fun seeing the photos! 8)

Do you set these up inside or are you taking them out in the wild?
LOL... 250 power naps a day eh? Something new for me to try! Yay!
Again, thank you very much!
