Bougainvillea is a common sight here. It's an ornamental plant that loves warm climates. The bright color you see is actually in the bracts (specialized leaves) and not the flowers themselves, which are small and white.
I shot this on Ann Siang Hill, where most of the shophouses were built between 1903 and 1941. Shophouses are low-rise, terraced buildings with "five foot ways" which are covered walkways in front of the facade, providing shelter for the pedestrian.
A nice and colorful street scene . We do have Bougainvillea , only as indoor plant or when it`s nice weather in a pot in the garden In wintertime they need warmth and shelter in a hothouse.
I love those vibrant colours! I have a bougainvillea in my garden but I'm guessing that as it's rained every day pretty much for 6 months it's not going to like it very much!!
I love how you highlighted the bougainvilleas against the city scene. Fab composition. Our are not in bloom here yet....I'm anxiously waiting as I love them, too. Gorgeous shot!
That motorcycle couldn't have been better placed if you'd set it up yourself. There's a house I drive past every day which has these two colours and a deeper purple, all growing up poles in his front yard. Very colourful, yet spikey, plants.
The colours here but also the movement of the motorbike with the slightly blurred buildings makes this a very interesting shot. (interesting in a good way - not hmmmm.....interesting)
Livia's world of flowers ...and what a beautiful world it is. These are stunning ...love the colors and textures. Great pov ..love the buildings around this.
oh, i miss singapore. maybe i should pass by next year on my way to manila. lovely composition, livia, especially with the inclusion of the biker. there's no stopping you. you're one of the best around here!
I did not know that about bougainvillea ....very interesting. I love the angle of your shot, the red door frame, and that motorbike! And when I catch sight of your bio that says "no Dslr" I am still amazed...especially with your macro shots. That is a great camera! And photographer too of course!
I didn't know that about the leaves/flowers, I love bougainvillea we have it at our house in Spain with purple leaves/flowers. I remember your window shots, so lovely. This is a gorgeous shot beautifully composed:0)
Such beautiful clarity in this shot. I love the colors and that biker zipping around the corner there! Your shots of the shophouses were so very nice too :)
A great, big, colorful and bright "THANK YOU!" to everyone! Thank you for stopping by. I wasn't expecting a biker to ride into the shot, but I'm glad he did. The pink bougainvillea is common, the yellow one is less so.
Again, thank you very much! Your support is a great source of encouragement for me.
I love this Livia, fantastic colours! This flower is the symbol of my hometown but never knew they come in yellow too. I grew up with the pink-purple one....
Great street capture. Love your composition and the dynamics created by the serenity of the colorful flowers and the stark contrast of the moving motorist. Looks like a beautiful place to live.
