The seasons over so people can "sneak" their dogs in the lake from the community beach. This is my neighbor Gemma . IMO dogs are more hygienic than kids and adults in the water anyway! :)
Fabulous Hope I love this. I watched a really interesting programme on TV last night. It was trying to understand the huge rise in allergic conditions like asthma and eczema. The conclusion they came to was that our gut health was not good enough and many bacteria were missing from samples taken from those with the conditions. One of the reasons put forward was how our need for cleanliness and safety has cut many of us off from the normal environmental bacteria. They discovered for example that children who have dogs or cats in their homes during the first year of life have better gut health and are less likely to develop allergies. There were other reasons too but that one was great for all pet lovers.
Just love this! Such a happy dog. I remember a few years back when I was doing some Animal Assisted Therapy and working with kids who were recovering from burn injuries, one of the doctors said she felt it was more likely that the dogs would get some infection from the kids and not the other way round. Eventually due to lack of knowledge (and resistance to learning!) we had to stop visiting the kids. Such a sad state of affairs. Bureaucratic red tape can be quite frustrating at times!
@ceilidh that is interesting. And I believe it.I have seen a real rise in allergies in preschoolers. When I started teaching 30 years ago ..any allergy was rare.I too think that in our effort to over sanitize everything we are instead creating huge problems.
@salza oh that is terrible!that makes me sad for those children! It has been proven that animals can be essential to healing and emotional well being. When I was undergoing chemotherapy,I purposefully scheduled my appointment on Tuesdays because that was therapy dog day. There is nothing like the unconditional affection of an animal to heal your soul.
