Salt Crystal - wonderful texture by netkonnexion

Salt Crystal - wonderful texture

When I was doing the salt crystal shoot the other day for the "Identify This!" photo I came across an enormous salt crystal. It measures just under one inch across from side to side. It is almost perfectly symetrical and has the most wonderful texture. You are looking into it. The 3d shape is of a pyramid with four sides. In this shot it is inverted.

I decided to photograph it for my project as an object in its own right. It took nearly an hour of working with lighting to bring out the subtle tones and the sparkles. I have shown it here cropped and desaturated but otherwise SOOC.

Photographed with a macro, extension tube and three different lights.

And this is where your photography skills TOTALLY outdo mine. Three different lights? Macro AND tubes? It definitely pays off.

Interesting shot, well conceived ... and yet another example of how much we can learn by seeing the world though our cameras!

Great shot - I bet you could use it as a texture in a shot.
