Beautiful minimalism . . I went back and forth and back and forth. At first I liked this one, but now I perfer the other. It's very subtle but it has to do with the slight difference in placement, I think. Which one do you prefer, net?
@karenann - minimalism is about showing the essence of something by reducing it to only the necessary elements. I like the focus on this one because the blade, the MOST essential element is thrust into the forefront where the focus portrays its purpose - ie... conveys its essence. You are right, the distinction is subtle. But the essence is everything in minimalism.
I went back and looked AGAIN! And, yes, I agree with you now, net. There really is a subtle difference after reading your description. This one is better. Thanks for the education on "minimal!" Love it. :)
lol- I'm reading all the comments on both posts and they're completely divided! It's a twist on the old adage: ask 3 photographers on 365 for their opinion and get 3 different answers with 20 different reasons why.
@shanne - I am not sure that I would be able to get the right depth of field with that. Using a wide angle lens I might be able to lengthen the blade and get closer to a central focus. But it would spoil the minimalism. If I took the photo from further away the depth of field would be there, but the concept would b lost in the smallness of the overall shot. You are clearly right. It is a difficult balance. But you make an interesting point. On the other hand I am trying to reduce the elements in a minimalist shot, so I tend to want to express the important part and reduce the rest - that is minimalism...
