I have a preference for this one as I like more detail. Simple works.

Like this one better because you can see the shaft.

I prefer this one for the focus.

I prefer this too as you can see it better, also I like the more defined shadow.

Beautiful minimalism . . I went back and forth and back and forth. At first I liked this one, but now I perfer the other. It's very subtle but it has to do with the slight difference in placement, I think. Which one do you prefer, net?

I like this one best because you immediately know what it is.

I like it!

@karenann - minimalism is about showing the essence of something by reducing it to only the necessary elements. I like the focus on this one because the blade, the MOST essential element is thrust into the forefront where the focus portrays its purpose - ie... conveys its essence. You are right, the distinction is subtle. But the essence is everything in minimalism.

I like the blade here, and abstraction of the other shot, what would half way between the two look like?

This one. Love the perspective and length.
March 12th, 2012
like this one too.

I think I really like this one better than the other one I left a comment on.

Excellent!

I went back and looked AGAIN! And, yes, I agree with you now, net. There really is a subtle difference after reading your description. This one is better. Thanks for the education on "minimal!" Love it. :)

Cool perspective!

lol- I'm reading all the comments on both posts and they're completely divided! It's a twist on the old adage: ask 3 photographers on 365 for their opinion and get 3 different answers with 20 different reasons why.

I went back and forth between the two and finally settled on this one.

@shanne - I am not sure that I would be able to get the right depth of field with that. Using a wide angle lens I might be able to lengthen the blade and get closer to a central focus. But it would spoil the minimalism. If I took the photo from further away the depth of field would be there, but the concept would b lost in the smallness of the overall shot. You are clearly right. It is a difficult balance. But you make an interesting point. On the other hand I am trying to reduce the elements in a minimalist shot, so I tend to want to express the important part and reduce the rest - that is minimalism...

This is so really good. Now try it at a very narrow angle
