Newbank

So my name on here is Newbank Lass.....and there is a story behind the name. My grandparents live (well only my Granny now) in a house in a small village in Northumberland, there house is called Newbank. It is an old farming cottage. My grandparents met each other through a photography club, my grandfather had a passion for photography all his life. He and my granny were my inspiration for wanting to take up photography. He was not convinced by digital photography but we stayed the night with my granny last night and I showed her my project, she said at the end she thought he might have been swayed to have a dabble and that she enjoyed my photographs and she wished my grandfather could have seen them. Her words made me proud. Lass? Well Lass in Northumberland is how you address girls, ladies, females in general with tenderness. Mostly you would say Canny Lass but on here in honour of them I am Newbank Lass. My granny was touched by my name. Oh and apologies to anyone who has had illegible messages from me.....my eldest had the ipad on the long car journey home this afternoon and told me he had commented on pictures he liked!
A lovely bit of family history, both visually and in your story. I'm glad you are continuing the family tradition of photography. Hearing your Granny's comments on your shots, and what she thinks your grandfather might have felt about them, must give you a wonderful feeling.

Lovely history. Is it near Bamburgh? We are on holiday there in August and I think we may be staying on a farm somewhere near a place called Newbank!

Wonderful story to share -- I'd wondered how you came up with your 'handle' and the story's connection to photography and family is quite moving.

@newbank What a fabulous story - amazing that your grandparents met through photography too! I have what I need, promise not to over use it! Thank you

@dibzgreasley No problem with you using my real name. Sean O'Neill knows it and uses it. You're only third person to have asked.
