Superb portrait, very carefully and thoughtfully done. Excellent composition again - I see him through the eyes of the face-painter. The light on his face/hair and the out of focus background work together to strongly direct our attention onto him yet give us enough background information. I don't know whether you actually think these things through as you prepare the shot or if you do it intuitively. I am full of admiration for your skills - I could never have taken such professional looking photographs of my own children. It's a very nice moment - just don't show it to the girlfriends he will bring home! :-)
@yrhenwr Umm not sure what to say but thank you very much for your comments. Honest answer.... Not sure if it is intuitive or thought through.... I didn't stand there for a long time thinking about..... It's more the other side of the camera when I look at my memory card and realised most of it is rubbish.... To be honest after looking at this weekends photos, ( I have about 20 I'm happy with out of 100's) I realised I perhaps need to think ALOT more about what I am doing.
@yrhenwr Ohh girlfriends.....already had them home, this morning on the way to school he was telling me the colour scheme of the bedroom he and his wife will have when he is married to her.... he has women fighting over him and he is 5!!! he was though relieved to discover that when he gets married he will still have a mummy, didn't tell him by that point in his life I will not be the most important person to him...
@newbank As long as you don't mind spending so much time scrutinising and deleting, 20/100s seems to me to be a good hit rate! I bought a medium format film camera, maybe 5 years ago, so as to force me to slow down BUT I only got 2 decent shots in 3 or 4 years! (Both portraits with the camera on a tripod). It was too damn heavy to lift! I took a few shots of the Borth 'sunken forest' with it - again on a tripod. None of them could hold a candle to those I got with the Lumix balanced on my foot!
And what a darling little fellow your boy is! It looks as tho he's quite serious about holding as still as possible during his face-painting session. Wonderful photograph with the painter's hands at work and the surrounding activities blurred in the background.
Thank you for your visit and comment shared on my Down the Tracks b&w pic. And thank you for organizing this ongoing challenge. I came into this 365 project having produced only one b/w image in all my years and thinking I didn't really care for the look. Having seen so many wonderful images here, I've since had a change of heart!
