The library at Calke Abbey today. This is straight out of camera, isn't ISO amazing. Cant use flash in these buildings and this library was only lit by this single lamp. Out of all the rooms in the historical properties we look at I love the libraries the most. I have my eye on the kids playroom, when they leave home and fly the nest it'll be my library. With shelves and shelves of books. A comfy chair for me and one for hubby. A light to see my book by, a stool for my feet and a small table for a drink and piece of cake. The doors to the garden will be open, the breeze gently flowing into the room, the sound of the birds singing gently to be heard....
Great shot, these are the kind of shots that I struggle with as my sensor is not great in low light. I have to say I like your idea of what to do with your children's playroom, it sounds like my idea of heaven.
@ukandie1 my old camera struggled above ISO 400, got noisy then... My new one is doing well, when get the chance I'm experimenting. I'm impressed with its performance here at 6400! heaven it will be!
You describe your library so well I can almost see it....would definitely be my choice too? A house with no books in it has no soul in my eyes! A beautiful warm cosy room.
What a beautiful old fashioned library. You can keep your kindle etc. I just love books. We started off with a library in our rumpus room and then another one in our study and now we have 22 bookcases scattered across the whole of our house. We have run out of walls now to put book cases on. ha ha.
This is such a great shot. These types of shots are difficult but you make it look so great! The composition is super and all of the books make a great theme throughout the scene.
I find this to be totally romantic, Ruth. Well composed, beautifully complex, wonderful books, a bit of dust and grunge to make it feel like it's been there forever. Wow!
Such a nicely composed shot. I can smell the old books! I love libraries too, my dream is a room in my house with books all round the walls and one of those little wooden ladders so you can reach the top shelves.
I like this image very much and I'm impressed with the quality at ISO 6400, especially so given that it's on a micro 4/3 sensor. I loved your description of a future library it sounds lovely. You can see part of ours in this shot http://365project.org/vignouse/365/2014-05-10 there's a big fireplace with a woodburning stove just out of shot to the right, which makes it very cosy in Winter.
