I'm travelling the world this year. So far I've travelled to the depths of Congo, sauntered through the streets of Nigeria, delved into Netherlands past, met an amazing woman in Pakistan, been a fly on the wall of a family in Japan, seen the sights of an Irish town, been to deathrow in America and now I'm in Russia. All this travelling since December has been from the comfort of my sofa. Next when it arrives in the post I'm travelling to Kosovo. I have downloaded an app for travellers and each time I visit a country I tick off. Looking forward to many adventures. Anyone got a country they'd recommend visiting?
What a great way to travel. We lived in Cyprus for three years during our RAF days and loved it. Stay away from the tourist spots though and visit the interesting villages. Initially we lived in a village called Erimi before moving to Akrotiri. Erimi claims to have been continuously inhabited since the Stone Age.
Would a visit to 19th century Edinburgh suit you? If so Ambrose Parry's The Way of all Flesh is a good read: You would learn about medical practice of the time and early anaesthetics. It presents a vivd picture of the streets of Edinburgh. I found it unputdownable! 'Ambrose Parry' is a married couple; he is the established writer and she has studied the medicine of the period in some depth. I couldn't wait for their next book which is in a similar vein. Here's a good description of it: https://theresasmithwrites.com/2018/11/19/new-release-book-review-the-way-of-all-flesh-by-ambrose-parry/
