Shadows by the canal

What a gorgeous day.

Bob and I went for a walk by the canal, the water was still and there were some lovely reflections to be had! I struggled with this shot a bit, because I wanted the bridge and the seat in but I really wanted to get that definition and drama in from the sky and the clouds against the black silhouettes of the trees.

Boo
I like waht you have taken here...kind of spooky but peaceful at the same time...lovely shot

It looks wonderfully atmospheric, It looks as if you and Bob have a little thing going on here!

Good shot, perhaps you need a fisheye lens for Bob. Looking good though.

@huvesaker @padlock do you know I've always wanted a fisheye lens, but was just never sure what I would actually do with it!! just to be able to say......I yeah, I've got one of those!!
@steampowered yup..... we sat a while on the bench while I learnt which buttons to press!! ;0)

@huvesaker @padlock @steampowered my problem was more that if I held a longer exposure to capture the bridge/seat in better light the sky was totally blown out! Technical solutions please team!! :0)

@nicolaeastwood There are a lot of buttons and combinations of buttons to master. Next time we meet, I will lend you my 17-40mm wide angle zoom to play with. It's not fisheye but it is fairly wide angle at its lowest end.

@nicolaeastwood HDR... One shot exposed for the shadows, one shot exposed for the midtones and one shot exposed for the brightest highlights. Merge them in HDR and Bingo! Instant nice shot (with a bit of practive...)

@nicolaeastwood Alternatively, if you are shooting in Raw and you have Adobe Photoshop (Elements or the full blown thing - I think they do the same thing) then you can bring back some brightness to your shot using the graduated filter function in Adobe Camera Raw

Boo
i would like a fish eye lens as well

Those tree & branches look very dramatic there ...I can see your problem...any lighter & there wouldn't be as much definition but you would see the seat better. Looking large is better & the light under the bridge is very illuminating when you look large.

Fabulous shot.

Looks like you and Bob are getting along famously.

I think this shot is all about the drama of the dark branches against the sky, so I wouldn't worry about losing the detail in the shadows.

I love this and it's funny as I was going to post something similar (not this good though). I like the way you have managed to fill the entire sky with tree branches. You are Bob are developing a special relationship!
