This little chap lives right up on the very tippy top of the Royal Exchange in the City of London. When I started travelling through the City to work with my Daddy every day he made me look for the Grasshopper. It was a while before I found him!
I've never forgotten him, although I imagine that most people in the City don't even know he's there. See him in the one of the right way way up there on the top?
The Royal Exchange was founded in 1565 by Thomas Gresham as a centre of commerce. The Grasshopper was I believe part of the Gresham family coat of arms. There's now a swanky wine bar on the floor or the exchange and luxury brand shops around the edge.
Well, I certainly never heard of , or seen this grasshopper! What a strange thing to have on top of the building.... but what a great shot! Is it pure gold?
@justine_x@gailmmeek have edited the comments to explain why he is there, which I meant to include and then totally forgot!.....but I have no idea what he is made of.....and now of course I want to know!
I found this!
