It rained and it rained and it rained... and then it rained some more...
I desperately need a dose of common sense... or at least a proper raincoat for my camera... it was pouring this morning when i dropped my boy off at hockey practice... but i was prepared with plastic bags and paper towel and headed down to the lake regardless... This is looking east from the Palais Royale...
I'm not entirely certain where the blue comes from... i think a combo of the fact that i've upped the saturation setting in my camera, and possibly that i was using a polarizer...
Wherever the blue comes from it's made a brilliant image. I love the little splashes of light shining through and the overall composition. Good on you for going out in the rain. That's dedication. I try to avoid it at all costs! xx
The blue cast is most likely the camera incorrectly guessing which white balance setting to use. It could also be a colour cast introduced by the polariser, but that's unusual for a relatively short exposure like this.
White balance can be very easily fixed if shooting in RAW, and if shooting in JPEG, minor adjustments can still be made -- look for a colour balance option in your photo editing software. It's best fixed in conjunction with viewing the RGB histogram of the image, which will show you when the red, green and blue peaks line up.
However, adjusting the white balance (either intentionally or accidentally) can very easily alter the mood of the image. In this case, I like the blues, as it gives the image a very cold feeling which, for me, works well with the composition and subject.
What a lovely shot! We had lots of rain last night too. Michigan getting a thunderstorm in Dec. with lighting is pretty awesome. Even more awesome when you are putting the christmas tree.
Ok, kid. You gave me a good idea......I'd like you to go back through your cottage photos and find something you want to use, edit and post. What I'd like you to do with editing is to do something you haven't done or experimented with yet.....learn something new. How does that sound? Hopefully like fun! Let me know :)
