man vs. traffic cone by northy

man vs. traffic cone

Back to black... kinda like photographic comfort food for me ;p

Just so we're clear, i absolutely welcome constructive criticism... feel free to let me know what you think could be improved in my photos or what you might try to do differently...

tx!:)

Is this a man? Well you would know - he probably walked past you! The shape of him is good and i do like the traffic cone too - in B&W it is not so glaring!

Awesome shot

I really love the contrast in this shot. Love how the man is silhouetted. There's something mysterious about it.

Great image!

Looks like a woman's silhouette to me ... Sultry in a way ... I love the ambiguity of it!

I love all the black, and the lines and texture of the wall.

@still_beachradish @archaeofrog @maggiemae ok - i am pretty sure it was a man! he passed me and was headed into the light... and i held my breath waiting for him to cross onto the lit bit and hoping like heck that no one else would enter the frame ;p

@northy :) I think it might be what looks long hair and a curvaceous figure ... totally works no matter what!! Awesome contrast and light ...
March 5th, 2013
@still_beachradish scarf, backpack, blown out highlights and motion blur are, i think, causing an optical illusion :)
March 5th, 2013
@northy wow ... All that and she's still hot! ;)
March 5th, 2013
@still_beachradish see, and if i could draw, i'd make the figure even more so... but i can't... so i resort to crazy $hit photography ;p

very film noir, I love it!

Really like your extreme b&w -style. The slightly blurred figure is working very well for me. I feel the blackness on bottom is maybe a bit unnecessary but I loved how this shot looked as large as the black background looked awesome on the right side, emphasizing the tunnel feeling. So basically a landscape shot instead of portrait in my mind...
March 5th, 2013
i adore that kind of capture..really awesome!

I too immediately thought "woman" as I sometimes find that extreme silhouette shots in a tunnel situation have a bit of an intimidating or creepy feel to them. But not this one. Really well done.

Reading other comments...this doesn't look like a woman to me? I always enjoy these "into the light" shots by you and others.

this is fantastic. i love your street shots

If I were shooting this, I would have tried to preserve some of the detail in the blacks, or if I couldn't, I'd crop a significant amount of the 3x255 expanse. There is a little detail in the whites hiding, and I would have tried to work that. But perhaps I am not the one to comment. I am not a fan of extreme exposure, although many do find it attractive. Good shooting.

Oh and Amen to your tag about not judging life based on Monday's :) hehe

Love the high contrast. I really like people who aren't afraid of pure black. :)
March 5th, 2013
@humphreyhippo any other kind is a pale imitation ;)

Tx!

cool stalker feel...though I'm sure you weren't being a stalker! :)
March 5th, 2013
Wonderful light and contrast - love that you can see the small circle of light between the figure/arm. : )
