grown older; they colour no more by northy

grown older; they colour no more

6 word story... i guess... the concept still kind of eludes me and i'm never quite certain whether i'm just captioning or actually telling a story ;p

oh well... really this is intended for my get pushed challenge... once again involving colour (yeeesh! ;p)...

@shannejw challenged me to shoot something that combines the primary colours and it needs to be colourful... a little short on time today so i thought i would play with some bits of crayons we dug up the other day...

tx everyone for the continued views and comments... i really appreciate them all :)

I love the simplicity and negative space. And Yes that is a story, of childhood loss.
I hope you will be weighing in on the B&W book club next month.

You nailed it! Love this! Fav!

Beautiful! Really, really love the 'story' concept here and perfect execution of your push.

(Also, shadows are the worst.)

@tigerdreamer tx Karen... i have the book and plan to play :) any colour push challenges will be relegated to one of my other albums!

I like it. Works well for the 6 word story and I really like the minimalism of the shot.
January 28th, 2014
(1)wordstory....Winner !!!:)
January 28th, 2014
Ooh! Very cool...nice crayon nubs you've dug up!
January 28th, 2014
I think it tells a story quite well and vividly. And uses negative space wo well.
January 28th, 2014
so well, not wo well
January 28th, 2014
Great shot, love the comp :)

Great use of primary colors against a beautiful clean white background. I too have the same thoughts re 6 word story, if I move some words up my Wheeehee shot form today would be a 6 words but is that what its about?
January 28th, 2014
It does tell a story.
January 28th, 2014
I love the simplicity of this! All that white against that bright colours are wonderful!
January 28th, 2014
cool shot and challenge surely met. I like your comp
January 28th, 2014
I think this is a great response to the challenge - feels like your shot even though it's in color.
January 28th, 2014
Fabulous, great idea like your creativity!

Fav for me! Love the set up, colour, everything!
January 28th, 2014
I like it. I love the colours and the composition and the story fits too.
January 28th, 2014
I think this does work as a story - great photo too. Love all the negative space. I keep getting pushed to shoot in colour, that or food!

Boo
reminds me, I have to replenish the colour pencil stocks...all my pencils are so short I just can't use them anymore...LOL trouble is, I can't throw them away either...hahaha
January 28th, 2014
Brilliant
January 28th, 2014
there is something about aged crayons, they are not appealing , whereas the allure of new ones is incredible. I think your story is evocative.
January 28th, 2014
aha a cleverly layered story - the viewer must decide was it the children that grew old, or the crayons....
January 28th, 2014
Wonderful! Fav.
January 28th, 2014
terrific job on the challenge!
January 28th, 2014
U make me laugh...darn color anyway :). This is simple but effective....that some kid somewhere used them up drawing dreams! Nicely done!
January 28th, 2014
I love this, a great shot and a fav.
January 28th, 2014
Excellent…simple and excellent!
January 28th, 2014
So effective, fabulous response to your challenge
January 28th, 2014
This is a sad, but true tale. I like your use of the small portion of what remains of the crayons. Put them to good use ;)

Love this. The textures are fab - I can practically smell that tell-tale wax from here. The simple set-up works great, too. I won't debate your use of the semicolon, but I for one think it is a true story :)
January 28th, 2014
Perfect simplicity, beautiful colours and I love the use of negative space.
January 28th, 2014
Rik
Love the use of negative space
January 28th, 2014
I like the simplicity of this and the high key approach - nothing like your usual style.
January 28th, 2014
Great minimalistic shot.
January 28th, 2014
OK, colours - and cool minimalism
January 28th, 2014
Everyone's comments tell you that you got this dead right - it certainly does tell a story. But you made a great point - it would be easy to be seduced by a clever caption whilst the shot lacked 'soul'... never fear, yours has it.
January 28th, 2014
Great composition.
January 28th, 2014
@rachelwithey hmmm... colour and food being things that you would prefer to avoid photographically-speaking? why am i not following you? ok - i've addressed that now!
January 29th, 2014
i am going to steal this idea.. one day ::)
January 29th, 2014
@brigette go for it! i can't imagine i was the first to think of this in any event :)
January 29th, 2014
I like it when you branch out into color. What I think is interesting about this one is that I can see it being just as strong in black and white. Great shot!
January 29th, 2014
Love it!
January 29th, 2014
Love the negative space and pop of colour....love this....fav!
January 29th, 2014
Neat! And so much colour.. :P
January 29th, 2014
Excellent high key, love the negative space too. Nice to see some color.

Terrific, befitting of a Northy venture into rainbows and unicorns.
January 31st, 2014
Aw, this is sweet and sad and true. Love how they are broken and old. You did good here, friend. Fav. Awesome story shot.
January 31st, 2014
Lovely. A story, yes, it tells it. (had to play with 6 words!)
January 31st, 2014
Definitely a story rather than a caption. It tells is as it is and the shot does too. We have boxes of these half used, mucky crayons and all my babies are growed up now :o( xx
