@lizhammond gave me a really interesting challenge for get-pushed this week... she has suggested that i give up control, and allow various components of my shot to be chosen at random... the idea being that various elements (camera, lens, settings and subject) would be written down on bits of paper and tossed into a hat to be picked at random...
because i am inherently lazy, i decided to use a random number generator instead... asking it to give me a number between 10,000 and 39,999... the first digit representing camera, the second lens, the third f stop or shutter speed, the 4th subject and the 5th whether colour or black and white...
for this image i had to use the sony nex7 with the 18-200mm lens and a 30s shutter speed... subject was "decrepit" in black and white...
30 seconds was impossible given the light, so i used an ND filter (hope that wasn't cheating!)
not sure where the ghosts in the image come from...
Great result. Was it tough to find a shot to suit the settings or was it not having the choice that was hard?
Hopefully tough challenges get us learning more. Mine was a toughie so I guess that makes us quits!
Like the random number generator idea. Filter absolutely fine - anything to get the long exposure. Not sure about the ghosts, maybe the filter with the backlight, adds to the effect anyhow. Hard won serendipity by the sounds of it.
Shame you don't know where the ghosts come from.. you could use the technique again. As for the random number generator you are clearly something of a nut case...! I mean that int he nicest possible way, of course! ;-)
