nice entry northy! i also have my reservations about this lens. is there a different zoom you would try for this camera? also, does the mark II have focus peaking? not that i'm in the market for a new camera - i can dream though ;)
@slash yes - love this camera... easy to tote around and excellent lens options... i have a couple really good ones, but have yet to invest in a higher quality telephoto... the one drawback for this camera is that the live screen display is not "what you see is what you get"... that is, it doesn't display the exposure you will achieve based on your settings, but rather something closer to what it feels the "correct" settings should achieve... this has taken some getting used to and is the one thing i would want to change on the camera...
@pistache hi Clare... yes - i've been looking at a couple different options... the cadillac option is very pricy, but there are a couple others i might consider... i think the camera has focus peaking but i'm not sure as it's not a feature i've ever figured out how to use (i have another camera that definitely has it)...
@teachntravel tx Julie... the lens is generally ok for most things, but i've found that if i'm aiming for the horizon it tends to muddy the focus... i expect i either need to identify the sweet spot or make an effort to focus manually (although i'm not sure how that works on this lens or even if i can)...
Classic Northy treatment! I like it. The lens poses well even if it lacks a certain finesse. Maybe a 10x (plus some) is too wide a range even though it covers most situations? I considered it for the EM5ii - as well as the 12-40 which seems much better - but decided, as I usually do, on the prime lens route.
Nice shot. This lens was part of my travel kit. In good light and at 100mm or less it's OK. Then I got the Panasonic 35-100 f2.8. It's better than OK. I'll find out in March what it's like to carry the weight all day.
Well at least it was good for something.
