peace through valour by northy

peace through valour

(not sooc)
this is for my get pushed challenge set by @allsop - i was to use the poem "September" by Amy Lowell as inspiration... it's about the first world war...

the full poem can be found here:
https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/42990/september-1918

this above photo is a picture of the Peace Through Valour memorial at Toronto City Hall... it commemorates the 93,000 Canadians who fought in the Italian campaign of WWII... the memorial depicts the aftermath of destruction in Ortona resulting from the battle for its liberation...

the last three lines of the poem read:
"For I have time for nothing
But the endeavour to balance myself
Upon a broken world."

as you can see - a serious poem... i am mindful of how lucky i am to be living in a world that is *not* broken and wanted to pay proper respect to those less fortunate...
@allsop - thank you for this challenge... i did need to give some thought to how best to answer it!

@northy That is a brilliant photograph and a most fitting memorial, as you say, to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Wonderful!! Great debt to those who died that we could live freely.

Beautiful photo and poem. Does justice to the idea of "emotion recollected in tranquility."

Great photo! It really captures the essence of the memorial.

I couldn't say that the world is not broken. What goes around, comes around and it feels like it might come around any time soon. However, I sure love this pic. Fav

Very evocative image. I'm just not as sure as you that this world today is not broken.

@lostphojo @gardencat thanks... maybe i should have been clearer in my write-up... there are definitely many many ills in this world... climate change, economical problems, hate for no reason... but i am one of the fortunate ones... the challenges in my particular corner of the world pale in comparison to some of the problems others face directly every day...

Deliciously gloomy and blurred. Makes your point very well.

Both my grandfathers fought in WW1 in France, one of them is buried there, and the other carried shrapnel until he died. Two great-uncles are also buried in France so it's no surprise that I found the poem very sobering.
