I saw this technique on 365 a few weeks ago and decided to save it for the last "new technique or camera setting" day of our 30 Days in June challenge. Someone had placed a colorful geometric pattern on their computer screen and shot the design through a glass. The effect was very striking. But I couldn't replicate what they'd done so I had to improvise I played a CD through my windows media program which produces series of shapes and colors in time to the music, held the glass up to the screen with one hand and took the picture with the other. I ended up with some pretty interesting shots! This was my favorite- but then, I'm partial to blue!
@mrssmith Thanks Carla! It's not my own (and I really should write myself a note as to who I get these ideas from so I can give them credit!), but I really liked the idea. @httpgeffed I think in the shot I saw they'd put the glass on some kind of stand or mirror so that the pattern came through the glass in the shape of the glass (if that makes sense). On this shot, it's more of a background.
Thank you Kimmi, Vikki, Marie, Rick, Wendy, Smitha, Brian, Sally, Alia, Dione and Bruni!
Sorry for the mass thanks- I'm trying to make up for some time today. I can't take complete credit for the creativity here- it's a variation on a really cool shot I saw someone else post.
@groovygirlrn Thanks Sheri! @automaticslim Thanks Automatic! I loved that reflection of the window! @paulavdmerwe Thanks Paula! @karenann Thanks Karenann- not really incredible. I was just doing a variation on what I saw because I couldn't replicate it. My camera just can't do it. But, I was really pleased with my alternative!
@nicolecampbell thanks Nicole- I wish I could direct you to the shot I was inspired by because you'd be able to do that style. I think what the person did was they put a geometric picture up on the computer screen (abstract stripes of some sort). Then they set the glass up in front of the design. The curves of the glass distorted the design and the edge of the glass became part of the pattern in a way. It was really cool, but I couldn't get the set up and my p&s "flipped out" on what to focus on. But I figured out a variation for my camera and it worked. @cimes1 Thanks Carole!
@prttblues Thanks Bev! There were a couple that reminded me of your light photos (obviously not as good or beautifully patterned), but the glass wasn't as focused in them.
This is great!! I'm inspired! In the thumbnail it looked to be a chemistry glass, but when viewed I see it's a drinking glass upside down. Great job!!! :-) Blue is always great too :-)
