Happy Hmong New year by pandorasecho

Happy Hmong New year

Many of my friends and students are Hmong, so today we went to the community celebration. Great food, beautiful dancing and music and the children in the traditional clothing are a jingling delight covered in silver coins but I wasn't too eager to take a lot of pictures of the children so I watched them with fascination and limited my photos to the stage performances

Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh and the greatness which does not bow before children. --Kahlil Gibran
Great way to learn about other cultures.

Never heard of Hmong but it sounds as if I need to! Interesting costumes and I wonder what the music sounds like!

How wonderful that you have the opportunity to share with this great Asian group their traditions. I am sure it was a very interesting event. Love your quote by Kahlil Gibran, as well as your description of yourself in your profile.

Great shot, Dixie, and it sounds like it was a very nice celebration.

@maggiemae the Hmong people fought against North Vietnam with the US. They are an Asian indigenous people found in several Asian countries like china and Thailand. A lot of them had to escape to refugee camps and from those have come to the USA and our community has a large population of them. Many of my friends and students and coworkers are Hmong.

Jeff and I worked briefly for a Korean church and it was delightful to see how they incorporated the children into holidays. This celebration looks like it was both entertaining and beautiful.
