Just how do stone masons carve such ornate pieces from a solid lump of stone.

Beautiful. My ggg grandfather on my dad's side of the family was a stonemason. He died of a strangulated hernia. Hazard of the occupation i guess

@Dawn Thank you Dawn, there were five different designs all about the same size on top of the stairs wall outside Bradford Cathedral:)

@onewing Thank yo Babs, I've watched Masons working in the workshop of Lincoln Cathedral and some of the stones are massive, as you say Hernias must be almost inevitable in the old days:)

@louannwarren Thank you for your comment Lou Ann all the Cathedrals in Britain still have full time stone masons working in them an art/skill thank goodness that is not dying:)
