Thames Barrier by peadar

Thames Barrier

Yesterday was the hottest UK day since June 1976 (35 deg C at London Heathrow). As you might expect, today is grey, cloudy, some rain and the sun not to be seen!

This is the Thames Barrier - one of the largest flood defence systems in the world - which protects London from flooding at high tide. It appears to be used much more regularly these days!

I saw a programme about the Thames Barrier on TV a few weeks ago. So interesting.

I bet you would be melting at the moment with temperatures of 35 degrees.

How interesting! I never knew such things existed. I hope you get cooler temperatures. Wow, that is too hot for me!

Over the years I sailed up and down the Thames I watched it being built from the start 1974 but never see the finish in 1984 as I was then working on oil rig supply ships from Aberdeen from 1981 it was amazing to see it grow from nothing to this.
