After yesterday's burger, I figured I'd better get out and walk! On my travels I came across this field of neglected sunflowers. Clearly they were cultivated at some stage in the past, but this year at least they have been allowed to mature and whither un-harvested.
Back in the 1990s in the UK there was a TV advert for a utility company that featured pylons marching across the English countryside to the tune of the finale from Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto (at the time I thought this a strange choice - why not Elgar, or Vaughan Williams?). Anyway, seeing this conjunction of neglected sunflowers and pylon marching through their field made me think of how things move on... not always for the best, perhaps...
Funny you should mention that violin concerto - I just photographed the teenager's violin this morning! I agree what an odd choice that was for that advert. Made me think "the Russians are coming!" I like your focus on this and am glad those flowers were left to live. Nature has a way of brightening up industrialised corners in a most appealing way.
How strange to leave the sunflowers to fend for themselves! All sorts of wild theories come to mind, in the end its probably just down to boring economics! A great shot Peter, I'm liking the pylon
