I visited family today, and we lunched in this lovely pub, The Five Bells, near Leighton Buzzard. As you can see, it offers "fresh homemade dishes", a phrase much in use but which is always a puzzle to me. Did the Chef make them at home and bring them in? Or does s/he live on the premises, perhaps?
The pub name itself derived from the number of bells in the local Church tower, however, this became an anomaly in the 19th century when the Church added another bell! The original structure of the pub dates back to the 17th Century, but there is surprisingly little of interest in the public archives, aside from the fact that it has always been a coaching inn. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose.
And, for those of you who are waiting for the decorating to start (see post from a few days ago), some very useful planning discussions were held here today. So there...
Thanks to all for your comments and favs over recent days. I read every word and appreciate them all.
It does indeed look a lovely pub. As for the decorating, I would suspect the repainting of the Humber bridge requires less planning than your study appears to be having, but it is always best to be prepared for any eventuality 😉
Ha, we do have some odd expressions don't we? Did the chef make the actual dishes that the food was served in as well? That aside, it looks a good place to eat!
Is this at Stanbridge? I think I have been there many many years ago. We had friends who lived at Leighton Buzzard and their house backed on to the Leighton Buzzard Light Railway.
@onewing Yes, right first time. It's a lovely place. I've not seen the Light Railway in action, although I did see the depot on my last visit to the area. Very interesting history, worthy of some 365 attention in the future!😎
Hi Peter, thanks for accepting to team-up for this week get-pushed challenge! I had a looked at your recent photos, and the most obvious area to push you in is "Portrait"! So, your get-pushed challenge is "take a portrait of a man or woman (not children), with the subject looking straight into the camera". As an additional challenge (optional), the subject should not be a relative. At best, he/she should a stranger, but a neighbor or colleague would be fine.
