Start of a new contract today - unfortunately this means lots of motorway driving and time away from home - but needs must etc. My photo opportunities may be a little limited for the next week or so, and I may not always have access to Lightroom etc - please bear with me. I will be doing my best with the tools to hand!!!
Anyway - in the UK this is known as a "smart motorway". Sensors detect and monitor traffic speeds and in these "Variable Speed Limit" zones, the maximum speed adjusts to weight of traffic (on the principle that if we are all doing the same speed, staying in lane etc, the overall average speed for all cars increases. I'm not convinced!) This can often lead to gantry signs dictating a maximum of, as here, 40mph, when you struggle to get above 10mph for any meaningful distance.
I do hope you were a passenger here! I tried using the camera with one hand and driving up a little country lane yesterday - it nearly worked but something came towards me unfortunately.
I wouldn't want to do this journey every day.
I remember one particular journey in the UK when we visited my Mum for the weekend and had to travel on the M1 and M6 on a Friday evening when people used to commute from London to Manchester. the journey took 8 hours to travel 200 miles.
I share your pain. I often think when I see the speed restrictions on there "I wish!" My driving instructor used to say "It's a speed limit not a speed target." But the car park that is the M25 can be a very frustrating place to drive, I wish I didn't have to use it quite so often. All the best with your new contract.
