This is another post for my sister, Jean, who lives in New Zealand. This was a present from her a couple of years ago. She has made a habit of buying us odd bits and pieces from local craftsmen, made from local materials. This was made from buried Kauri wood, 45,000 years old, and the oldest workable wood available in the world.
@jonesp Well, it's my theme for the week. Thanks for the comments, Paul, always appreciated. @positivemoments Thank you for such a lovely thought, Tracy. @kimcrisp Thank you, Kim, I am glad somebody is enjoying it, I am finding out how frustrating macro photography is! Goodness knows how all those people on the Popular page get their miraculous shots!!!
@damianpowell Damian, apparently they have tons of the stuff down there. :-)
You won't like the answer to your question. This is an inexpensive screw-on Opteka macro converter for the standard 18-55mm Canon kit lens. I suppose it might demonstrate that one can achieve moderately OK photos with less than perfect gear.
Excellent shot. I really like this.
I'm in the market for a macro lens myself. Which lens did you use for this shot?
