The event we attended at King's Place yesterday (see yesterday!) was "an audience with" Sebastian Faulks, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his writing Birdsong, one of the landmark pieces of literary fiction of the 20th Century. It was fantastic to hear him talk about the characters and plot development.
Anyway, one of my favourite novels of all time is the one he wrote next - The Girl at the Lion D'Or.
@cdonohoue Thanks, Cathy, it was a lovely evening. @henrir Henri, I'm sure you won't be disappointed :-) @soboy5 Danny, it's one of his less well known ones. If you hanker after a taste of rural France in the 1930's, then it's a good read. @positivemoments Tracy, yes, and he was really very chatty and amiable. It was a special moment. @alisonp Thanks, Alison. @georgews Thanks, George, indeed it is. @lyno Thank you, Lyn.
Noticed this under ~literature~ tag. I recently read about Birdsong, having seen it way at the top of The Big Read list, BBC best books survey. http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/bigread/top100.shtml
I wasn't familiar with that author but I will make it a point to read him soon. Nice pic of the title page, too!
