rush hour by peadar

rush hour

A trip to Head Office, which means going through Waterloo main line station. I'm not a fan of overly processed images, but I have tried to soften this up a little to give an impression of movement.

Thanks to all for your comments over the past few days. I'll get back to commenting soon!
I like the poster effect coupled with black and white. Great image.

That's an interesting effect - the people look soft, and a bit unreal, in a mannequin sort of way. Which gives this picture a slight air of fantasy, as if when the clock strikes five, something will happen...

I really like the end result!

I like it Peter. Good choice on the b&w gives this a nice feel.

love this, I remember Waterloo in the age of steam - filthy!

Lovely busy picture - I love how you've blurred it, makes it seem not quite real.

Great processing reminds me of Lowrie........matchstick people, love it!!

Very nice image and enhanced by the processing. I agree with Ariel the people have a slight mannequin look to them - adds to the 'poster like' effect.

Very nice. I always tell my students to experiment just to see what may happen. It certainly worked in this situation.

Nice one Peter, I like the way the clock dominates....as if time is of the essence!

I like it! Cool rush hour shot. I agree, the clock stands out - emphasises that it is the rushing hour!

I agree with Fanny, nice in b & w too!

A busy shot! Nicely processed!

What a grand b&w, Peter. . .and definitely busy.

Nice composition, Peter!

So much to do, so little time! Nice busy shot Peter. Intrigued by your comment about softening to enhance movement.

@yrhenwr David, yes, this was a surprise and a learning point for me. As I was playing around with the clarity, sharpness, shadows and noise reduction, I noticed that the smoother, less contrasty, shot gave the impression of fluidity. So, not like a running waterfall taken at slow shutter speed, but using the other elements of the image to blur the edges a bit, lose some of the detail. I'm going on too much, end of pontification :-)

I like the composition and the perspective. Love the clocks at undergrounds in London! Great shot.

Very interesting result. People look ghostly , like they are disappearing. Which in conjunction with the clock looks like a scene from the movie.

I like the processing here.

Oh how I wish I could see the Waterloo station and that clock with my own eyes! Love this shot, makes me think of the power of time.

Nice processing...love shots with clocks

Four days later and there I was too. I like what they've done with the mezzanine level from WAE which is the one I use all the time.

@alison53 Yes, it's a big improvement.

So whaddya reckon about the phrase 'under the clock at Waterloo Station'? Is it urban myth or did someone in film actually agree to meet a friend there? I've had to meet countless people in that spot (which is in the middle of the concourse so one gets mown down in the rush) but we all know where it is at least and it's a good rendez-vous spot.
