medway crossing by peadar

medway crossing

This is the Medway Crossing - comprising three viaducts. The original 1963 structure (farthest to the left) carries four lanes of the M2 motorway coast-bound. The middle viaduct, added in 2003, carries four lanes London-bound. The Rail Viaduct, also completed in 2003, is reputedly the longest high speed rail span in the world. It carries the Eurostar London-Paris high speed train service.

Rather annoying twig things in the foreground which I had neither the patience nor skill to remove - sorry about that!

Thanks for all your recent comments really appreciate them.
Awesome shot Peter!

Very interesting - I'd never seen it before.

Wow... that's quite the crossing... such a busy place I bet! Nicely captured. I like it in B&W.

great bridge shot, perfect in B&W

The b & w suits the photo perfectly (although the grey days we are continually having make our photos almost appear that way anyway).

Great shot. I love the B&W. I am always amazed at how long the twigs/trees can stay in the water.

Peter, I didn't even notice the twigs till you pointed them out and now, like you, I find them rather annoying :) Still a good shot though and good to get a train on the viaduct too.
@jackie8 I definitely remember seeing the sun once.....'bout last May I think it was! :)

I like the lines.

@bluefirebucket Mick, thanks, I waited, and waited, then waited some more, temp 2 deg C, started to lose all feeling in my hands, then waited some more... When the train finally appeared I could just about press the shutter without knocking the tripod over; I can laugh now...

Good choice of black and white - picks up the detail!

Nice shot and interesting story which goes with it. Changed a bit since I left the UK 25 years ago. Loved your comment about 2 deg C - 40 degrees lower than it was here the other day. Can't imagine that.

Super shot Peter, good b & w study. I know what you mean about the twigs and also the patience!!

What an interesting choice of location, and yes we could hear the A2 from Cobham. I remember going to the cinema which had a carpark right under the support posts for the bridge. The normal train line down through Rochester gives an amazing view of the old castle if you ever happen to go that way.

Wonderful shot and lovely in B&W :) Superb job

Another impressive structure. I'd love to be on this London-Paris train. Great choice of b&w.

That is an inmpressive bridge and you photographed it well. I didn't notice the twiggy things until you pointed them out.

I'm glad you pointed out the train as well as the twiggy things as I'm ashamed to say I didn't spot it!!........hope you didn't get frostbite! Excellent view point for the viaduct, in August I was 50 yds to the right on a houseboat, learning how to use my camera!! A 3hour cheapy lesson!! Rochester is really interesting too..........Fabulous job!

You've got a great place to shoot from! Great pov. But you need to go buy warmer gloves and move about a bit more to keep warm! I keep reminding myself to walk briskly every once and a while between shots in the -5 to -10C weather we've been having lately. And still, it's always the fingers that freeze first... Ouch.

Great Picture of the Medway Crossings, used to live in Gillingham and commute to London on the M2 daily so watched the construction of the 2 extra viaducts. Im sure you have parked underneath at the retail park underneath it, where looking up at these is a spectacular view of them. Worthy of some pictures I expect. When I next go that way I must stop and take some.
