The Montie by peadar

The Montie

This is where I'm working at the moment - The Montefiore Hospital in Hove, East Sussex. It was converted in 2012 and is described in Wikipedia as a "large and distinctive Edwardian commercial building" designed by prolific local architects Clayton & Black between 1899 and 1904. Originally built for local department store Hanningtons as a furniture depository, the "magnificent red-brick building" was converted into offices for the Legal & General insurance company in 1972."

It was converted to a Hospital in 2012, preserving the original exterior facade and details whilst gutting the interior to provide modern medical facilities. It is known locally as "The Montie"

Since March 2020 the Hospital has been contracted into the NHS to provide support for the Covid-19 pandemic.

How wonderful that they kept the exterior facade with all of it's history! :)

A wonderful shot of this beautiful building. It's so nice when the original character of buildings is maintained when their use is changed.

Very interesting. Great that they used an old building instead of building some monstrous new hospital. Fav

I was absent from 365 in January so missed this but its just round the corner from me! Our paths were unlikely to cross, regardless of restrictions, as Id been redeployed to Guldford at the time. Hope you enjoyed your time in Brighton :)
