Sparrows by peadar

Sparrows

This family of sparrows seem to like our garden hedge. I took this shot quickly through glass this morning and it turned out better than expected.

This afternoon I spent an hour trying to perfect smoke trails and failed dismally. So, sparrows it is... I think these are House Sparrows but no doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong...

Lovely capture.

Sparrows love thick bushes. A large bird or larger animal will not enter there, which makes them feel safe there. And they chirp so wonderfully.

Looking very content on top of the ivy and in each others company. A little bit of bokeh too.

They look very relaxed

Very nice colours and dof

Nice capture. Sparrows are the most common birds around here. No way to meet a heron or an eagle like many of our 365 colleagues living in wilder places. Hope you are well already immunised?

@caterina Caterina, thank you. I had my first Pfizer vaccine on Friday. How are you and your family getting on?
January 23rd, 2021
@peadar thank you we are fine, so far. Our son, who works as a surgeon, had his first dose 19 days ago and is due for the second on Monday. Unfortunately Pfizer has decreased significantly the number of vaccines that were supposed to be provided, and as you know AstraZeneca is behind with the program. As a consequence the entire vaccination plan will be reformulated and we don’t know when our turn will arrive. No longer health workers, not yet old enough!

@caterina Well, I'm pleased your son is covered. What do you think about UK strategy of extending the time between doses to give more vulnerable people a first shot? Will Italy follow suit?

@peadar we are pleased too, he’s the one really at risk of exposure. Regarding the strategy of extending the time between doses the Scientific Committee is against it, as is the manufacturer. Having a larger part of the population protected less than ideally will let the virus circulate and possibly mutate. The situation in UK, however, seems to be dire because of the new variant and that justifies a rush to protect as many people as possible. These last weeks we had a slight reduction in contagions (but not in deaths) and hope starts to creep in in the country. I am pessimistic because what’s happening in Uk and France and Portugal might soon happen here. It’s a disaster for the economy, for education (schools are partially closed and in tele didactic) for the mental health of many, including some of our governors who have provoked a political crisis of uncertain end. New elections during a pandemic? Craziness that very few people understand. But I think I have already abused of a space that should be dedicated to photography. Have a good Sunday

@caterina And you, stay safe.

We don’t see as much sparrows as we used to, blackbirds are the most common bird in the Netherlands at the moment
