...flight simulator! That's me in the left-hand seat in a 737-800 Flight Simulator - an experience which was given me for my 60th birthday last year and which has only recently been possible to redeem because of the pandemic lockdowns. What an extremely interesting, enjoyable and mentally exhausting experience it was!
When David was in the RAF he spent a year at Cranwell doing an engineering course and during that time he and the other engineers on the course had to do one flight in a Jet Provost. At some stage through the flight he had to have a go at flying the plane. Unfortunately, the QFI (qualified flying instructor) with him was a friend and neighbour of ours called Steve Monahan and he was a bit of a show off. He did all kinds of manoeuvres including loops etc. just to show how clever he was. I think David was rather green when he returned to earth. ha ha. When Steve asked David if he would like to have another flight with him, David declined the offer.
@onewing Babs, that's a great anecdote, I can just see that happening. The guy who was coaching me in the flight simulator had the same attitude, very keen to let me know how much of an excellent pilot he was.
