Having navigated out of the Birmingham south-west suburbs and onto the Stratford Canal (which does eventually link up at Stratford-upon-Avon with the River Avon), we are taking the option for the Grand Union Canal here at Kingswood Junction.
Today we have descended 20 locks of the Lapworth flight (which continues on the Stratford arm to descend further). We have travelled 6 miles, but with 20 locks this makes it 26 lock-miles, and it took us around 7 hours or so. We were fortunate to be helped along the way by two outstanding Canal & River Trust volunteers.
Thanks for all your kind comments, favs and so on. Really appreciate every one.
Lovely peaceful picture.....am enjoying your journey. I lived in Aylesbury, Bucks which is the end arm of the Grand Union Canal......was a lovely walk along the bank.
The Grand Union Canal route sounds like a good decision.
