Thanks for the support, guys ~ I do love my new camera. Lots of room for improvement as I figure it all out! I can't go by "feel" with this one...too many variables. :) @Christine - I ordered the books you recommended, as well as a d5000 "how to" DVD. Looking forward to having those for reference.
@redfl83 It breaks my heart that you and Lee weren't able to make it to that gig last night. I know how much the music scene means to both of you. I suppose it's true that our burdens make us stronger...but, they also extract a great deal in the form of disappointment and regret. What I find so wonderful about you and Lee is how bravely you face adversity...you just keep on keeping on. That classic portrait of Lee reflects that outlook so beautifully. It's totally worthy of the top 20. And regardless if it makes it or not, you should think about framing it and giving it to him for Christmas. Hugs to you and Lee.
That picture is probably one of the prettiest "Autumn tree" pictures I have seen yet. I love the sun burst. I must say, you are a very fast learner my friend!

I made it a favorite.
Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I was a little nervous about my first shots with the new camera. I really appreciate the show of support!
@Britt-Arnhild ~ thanks for making it a fav!
